Senior Olympiad Maths
A week-long bridge camp for students moving from Intermediate follow-on rounds toward the Senior Mathematical Challenge and British Mathematical Olympiad. Live on Zoom, max 6 students.
About this course
This camp sits on the borderline between Intermediate and Senior UKMT competition maths. It is for students who are already comfortable with non-routine reasoning and want structured practice on the techniques that matter in the next filters — not a first introduction to problem-solving.
Across five days we work on:
- Intermediate follow-on techniques — proof structure, clear notation, and pacing in the six-problem format used in the Hamilton and Maclaurin Mathematical Olympiads. Past papers are on problems.cc (Hamilton) and problems.cc (Maclaurin).
- Senior Mathematical Challenge (SMC) — reasoning under time pressure, including the new three-digit answer format on the final three questions. The 2026 SMC is on Wednesday 7 October 2026 (dates on olympiads.co.uk). Practise past SMC papers on problems.cc.
- British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1 (BMO1) — selected full-solution problems at an introductory level for students stretching toward the senior olympiad route. BMO1 2026 is on Wednesday 18 November 2026. Past BMO1 papers are on problems.cc.
Each day runs 12:00 – 14:00 (Europe/London), Monday to Friday. Sessions are live on Zoom, capped at 6 students, with collaborative problem-solving and written solutions discussed in the group.
For the wider UKMT pathway and key dates, see olympiads.co.uk. Between camp sessions, students can keep momentum on problems.cc.
Schedule & format
Class times: 12:00 – 14:00 each weekday (Monday to Friday).
Camp dates: 20 – 24 July 2026 (five sessions).
1 × 2-hour session per day — one focused block of problem-solving and discussion.
Every session is live on Zoom. Students work through problems with the teacher and peers, share approaches, and review solutions together.
A typical 2-hour block looks like this:
- Warm-up — one short problem to settle in and surface useful techniques
- Main set — a focused batch of competition-style problems worked individually and in discussion
- Solution review — written solutions, proof structure, and common pitfalls unpacked as a group
Same small-group format as our Geometry in Olympiads camp — live, collaborative, and capped at 6 students.
Who this course is for
This camp is designed for students who want to push from strong Intermediate-level work toward Senior UKMT competitions:
- Students in Years 10–13 who have done well at IMC level or in Intermediate follow-on rounds (Hamilton, Maclaurin, or similar)
- Learners preparing for the Senior Mathematical Challenge in October 2026
- Students curious about BMO1 who want a structured first taste of full-solution olympiad problems
- Those who enjoy a challenge and want clearer proof-writing habits before the autumn competition season
No prior BMO experience is required — but this is not a camp for complete beginners. Students should already enjoy non-routine maths and be willing to write and justify their reasoning.
