Junior Olympiad Maths

A five-day half-term camp for Junior students working towards the Junior Mathematical Challenge and Junior Olympiad. Live on Zoom. Places are limited: at most 6 pupils. Apply for a place; there is no payment until a place is offered.

About this course

This camp is a concentrated week of Junior olympiad problem-solving. It is for students who enjoy a challenge and want structured practice on the ideas that sit behind the Junior Mathematical Challenge, the Junior Kangaroo, and written follow-on papers such as the Junior Mathematical Olympiad.

Across five days we work on:

  • Junior Mathematical Challenge techniques: non-routine number, algebra, counting, and geometry problems, with attention to pacing and checking. Practise past JMC papers on problems.cc.
  • Junior Kangaroo-style reasoning: slightly longer questions that reward careful reading and a clear method, not only a quick guess.
  • Written solutions: turning a good idea into a short, checkable argument of the kind used in the Junior Mathematical Olympiad. Past JMO papers are on problems.cc.

Each day runs 10:00 - 12:00 (Europe/London), Monday to Friday. Sessions are live on Zoom, with at most 6 pupils in the group. Places are limited.

Apply for a place. There is no payment until a place is offered. After you apply, complete a short challenge on Problems.cc. We are interested in how you think, not just how many problems you solve.

For the wider UKMT junior pathway, see olympiads.co.uk.

Schedule & format

Class times: 10:00 - 12:00 each weekday (Monday to Friday).

Camp dates: 26 - 30 October 2026 (five sessions).

1 x 2-hour session per day: one focused block of problem-solving and discussion.

Every session is live on Zoom. Students work through problems with the teacher and peers, share approaches, and review solutions together.

A typical 2-hour block looks like this:

  • Warm-up: one short problem to settle in and surface useful techniques
  • Main set: a focused batch of competition-style problems worked individually and in discussion
  • Solution review: written solutions, common pitfalls, and how to check an answer

This is a small group: at most 6 pupils. Places are limited. Apply for a place. There is no payment until a place is offered.

Who this course is for

This camp is designed for students on the Junior UKMT pathway:

  • Students in Years 7-8 (and strong Year 6) who want structured olympiad practice beyond school maths
  • Learners preparing for the Junior Mathematical Challenge and the Junior Kangaroo
  • Students curious about the Junior Mathematical Olympiad who want a first taste of written solutions
  • Those who enjoy a challenge and want clearer habits for explaining their reasoning

No prior olympiad experience is required. Students should already enjoy non-routine maths and be willing to try a problem before being shown a method.
