Intermediate Olympiad Maths
A five-day half-term camp for Intermediate students preparing for the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge and follow-on rounds. Live on Zoom. Places are limited: at most 6 pupils. Apply for a place; there is no payment until a place is offered.
About this course
This camp is a concentrated week of Intermediate olympiad problem-solving. It is for students who are already comfortable with non-routine reasoning and want structured practice on the techniques that matter in the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge and the papers that follow it.
Across five days we work on:
- Intermediate Mathematical Challenge techniques: algebra, number, counting, and geometry under time pressure, with attention to method and checking. Practise past IMC papers on problems.cc.
- Kangaroo follow-on reasoning: the slightly longer questions used in the Grey and Pink Kangaroo papers, where a clear written method matters as much as speed.
- Introductory olympiad solutions: selected full-solution problems of the kind used in the Cayley, Hamilton, and Maclaurin Mathematical Olympiads. Past papers are on problems.cc.
Each day runs 13:00 - 15:00 (Europe/London), Monday to Friday. Sessions are live on Zoom, with at most 6 pupils in the group. Places are limited.
Apply for a place. There is no payment until a place is offered. After you apply, complete a short challenge on Problems.cc. We are interested in how you think, not just how many problems you solve.
For the wider UKMT intermediate pathway, see olympiads.co.uk.
Schedule & format
Class times: 13:00 - 15:00 each weekday (Monday to Friday).
Camp dates: 26 - 30 October 2026 (five sessions).
1 x 2-hour session per day: one focused block of problem-solving and discussion.
Every session is live on Zoom. Students work through problems with the teacher and peers, share approaches, and review solutions together.
A typical 2-hour block looks like this:
- Warm-up: one short problem to settle in and surface useful techniques
- Main set: a focused batch of competition-style problems worked individually and in discussion
- Solution review: written solutions, proof structure, and common pitfalls unpacked as a group
This is a small group: at most 6 pupils. Places are limited. Apply for a place. There is no payment until a place is offered.
Who this course is for
This camp is designed for students on the Intermediate UKMT pathway:
- Students in Years 9-11 who want structured practice towards the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge
- Learners aiming for follow-on papers such as the Grey or Pink Kangaroo, or the Cayley, Hamilton, or Maclaurin Mathematical Olympiads
- Those who enjoy a challenge and want clearer proof-writing habits before the spring competition season
No prior IMC or olympiad experience is required. This is not a first introduction to problem-solving. Students should already enjoy non-routine maths and be willing to write and justify their reasoning.
